America’s concern with its rising trade deficit with China continues to grow, there is one product on which Americans actively seek out the “Made in China” label – au pairs. That’s right; maids and nannies from China are presently in high demand in the US, according to a 5 September 2006 report in The New York Times. The report said Chinese nannies are in high demand as China’s economic star rises and more Americans believe Mandarin will be the language of tomorrow’s sophisticates. American parents hope a Chinese nanny can equip their progeny with the basic language skills to later study Mandarin at school and succeed in the world economy of the future.
